'On the road to nowhere'?

When I were a lad I would spend hours wandering around the Heath and Donkey Wood. My pals and I would cycle, motorbike, swing on ropes hanging from trees over the River Crane and invariably end up swimming in its very suspect waters. We would play chase and hide and seek and later indulge in delinquent shit often withdrawing into the cover of the woods and Heathland much as the Highwaymen of the past had done before us as the forces of Law and Order gave chase.
Today the Heath and Donkey Wood remain as wilderness in which to escape the noisy, mundane and often grim suburbs around them and have lost little of the magic they held for me donkeys (ha) years ago.
