Hounslow Urban Farm

Down the road and round the corner from both Donkey Wood and Hounslow Heath is Hounslow Urban Farm, one of several such Farms, scattered around London. Located a mile or two from Heathrow Airport (sometimes seeming as though it is actually in an aeroplane engine the din is so loud) and quite close to Hatton Cross Piccadilly line tube staion is this neat little Urban Farm.
I have visited the farm many times over the years particularly with my sons when they were little and it is a wonderful place.
On my most recent visit in the autumn of 2008 I chatted to a member of staff to enquire why the admission fee was so high; I think it was a 'voluntary' contribution suggested at £4.50! I was told that the farm receives little financial help from Hounslow Council so basically struggles along on such voluntary assistance. I did a little checking and as far as I can see Hounslow is one of the only Urban Farms that charge admission. Come on Hounslow Council do the right thing!
The farm is full of delightful animals including Pigs, Goats, Sheep, Donkeys, Ponys, Chickens and Ducks. On my visit last year, as on those that I made in days of yore, the place was teaming with little children all having a great time especially with the young animals that were roaming free and who appeared to be enjoying the interaction equally.
So despite the constant racket of the planes overhead a little muddy patch of farmyard exists here to give your Urban Brats a taste of country life and they loves it m'dear!
