Long Wood revisited

Long Wood revisited

Its been a while since I have visited anywhere with a view to write or take photos of it, although in the intervening period I have enjoyed dipping my toes into rural London on the quiet.
I have been meaning to pop back over to Long Wood since I received an e-mail from a volunteer who was working in the wood, as part of a team looking after the place, telling me that the raised wooden walkway protecting part of the footpath had been restored. I had previously mentioned that the path was in disrepair so on being informed that it had been replaced I decided to go see! It took me a while but at the end of May 2012 I did return.

Here is a shot showing a section of the new raised path zig zagging it's way through the wood.
The path is important because it protects the woodland floor from the wear and tear of the feet of those passing through. Long Wood is basically in a valley and is in quite a large part very wet due to streams that run through it and the North Eastern corner is basically wetland so the one route through the place is very vulnerable to the effects of through traffic, hence the raised walkway.
