The tide is out. A shot from the footbridge to Lots Ait. The Watermans Arts Centre is on the left behind the barge. The Arts Centre looks set to go, as prime riverside land is worth a bundle and is too valuable for the likes of Joe Public!
Only in the last year or so since the re-devolopment of Brentford's riverside had I really taken notice of the Island or Ait opposite the Watermans Arts Centre. Prior to this the ait could only really be glimpsed from the outside bar area of the art centre. Now as offices and factory space are giving way to generally up market riverside appartment complex's a better view of the island has briefly; I guess been provided.
The metal structure in the foreground is the surround of the old 'dry' dock for which the pulleys (right of centre) once controlled gates which kept the Thames out in order to facilitate boat repairs. The gates are gone but boat work continues. In the background new riverside developments go up.
Cool rusty industrial coggy, wheel things amongst the undergrowth on the Ait.
